A “Tail” of Two Cities..?

One day, my mom and I were both snacking and Panda was having a grand time running back and forth between us, hoping for food. When this happened:

She later tried to claim it was a play on words but, I mean, c’mon. Obviously her reaction would have been a little different if it was intentional.

Wednesday Whale Love, Music Edition!

Halfway through the week already? Where does the time go!

This week I thought I would switch it up a little and instead of sharing my top Etsy finds, I’m going to share music with you.

My friend Jordan just shared this song with me over the weekend. I can’t decide if I like it yet or not, but it’s definitely growing on me. The intro is really long, though, so I skip past that part.

Yellow Ostrich- “Whale”

I heard this on the radio and Shazamed it. Again, I skip past the intro. Actually, when I searched for the video I thought I was stuck watching one of those ridiculously long YouTube commercials, ahah. I like it because it makes me want to dance!

Said the Whale- “I Love You”

And this has been a favorite of mine for years. I just think it’s one of the sweetest songs, ever.

Noah and the Whale- “Five Years Time”

Hope everyone is having a great week so far!

Mom capsizes a kayak.

Yesterday was so beautiful that my parents went kayaking. And somehow my mom tipped hers over. Now, the way she tells it, she started to tip a little bit and in her panic to right herself actually pushed herself in. But that’s pure speculation, based solely on the recap from the only person who really knows what happened. We may never know the truth about what happened out there on that beautiful, calm water.

What I can tell you based on the conversation we had after the fact is that my mom’s will to live has its limits.

Pencil Case Madness.

In the last few months I’ve really started to stress one of a kind for my shop. This is in part because it’s more fun for me to make everything different, but also because I like one of a kind things. I like buying something and knowing that no one else has one exactly like it. And I’m not just talking patter placement. I’m talking zipper color and lining fabric too. Something that’s actually unique, not just out of the main stream. And if I like things like that, other people must too!

On top of this, I’m trying to hone in on making things that I need and use, because (again) if I need it then someone else does too. This led to one of a kind pencil cases, and they are killing it in the shop right now! I’m guessing it’s because school is coming up, obviously this is something I’ll have to watch and track. If I’m going to try to grow, I’ll have to figure out if certain things sells better at certain times of the year and then plan my inventory with that in mind.

I spent all my free time this week on pencil cases:

pencil1(They’re taking over my desk!)

I ran out of room in my “things that need to be photographed” box! I really like taking pictures outside against our shed, and I can only do that on the weekend. This can be a pain because if we have a few overcast weekends in a row I just collect, collect, collect things but can’t add them to the shop.

pencil4 (1)(Completely full.)

I’m hoping that I’ll have enough stock to add a few new items every day for the next week or two. New items every day keeps things interesting for browsers!

I hope everyone has a great weekend! And if you’re in the market for a pencil case, I might know where you can find a few ;)

Wednesday Whale Love!

I have so many whale wonders to share with you! Every time I find something neat I try to favorite it, pin it, or bookmark it so I have a ton of stuff to choose from.

A few weeks ago I came across this GORGE necklace!

I love the intricate bone details in it. I would rock this every day.

This custom print fabric is adorable.

I would love to have this in my stash but I just can’t justify spending that much money on a quarter yard of fabric right now. And it comes in so many different colors!

When I first stumbled upon this little fella, my jaw literally dropped.

It was the mustache and monocle that won me over. He is too cute!

Hope everyone has a great rest of the week!

The Elusive Happiness

Happy Pie

This is a happiness pie chart from the movie Happy. I found it to be 1) amazing, 2) eye opening, and 3) so good. Americans have this weird notion that you can buy happiness. But if it was that easier, wouldn’t we be one of the happiest countries in the world? And instead we’re all angry at each other for essentially no reason, doing things to strangers out of spite, always looking to get ahead and never thinking about who we have to hurt along the way. Or maybe that’s just Massachusetts?

I have been soul searching lately, which is in part why I have been so incredibly absent from my blog. I can’t apologize for that because sometimes I just need to zone out. To regroup. To look at my life and say, “How did I get here?” And for the first time in my life I feel like I don’t have to do anything for other people, to make other people happy, which has caused me great confusion. Up until this point I’ve been making decisions based off what I thought was the “right” thing to do, the responsible thing to do. It didn’t matter if I was happy as long as I was doing what was expected of me. Right?

Happiness has eluded me for years. In high school I learned some fantastic coping mechanisms which really just allowed me to hide it. And in college when I couldn’t hide it I would try to hide myself.

What I have learned abut myself so far is that I need a little help in the “Genetic set point/range” part of the pie. “Intentional activity” is sometimes hard only because I don’t want to do a whole mess of things after I drive an hour to work, work a full day with angry people, stay late because we’re busy, and then drive an hour home. But I’m on a quest to create more happiness in my life. I probably won’t be able to max out that pie chart. But even if I have to work really, really hard, and put in long days, and pull my hair out in frustration because it allowed me to do something that I love, I think that would be so rewarding.

And I have to stop brooding over things I can’t control. Because it makes me crazy!

I shared this on the Facebook page a few weeks ago but I’m going to share it again.
